2008-2010 Senior Center Initiative
The California Commission on Aging has released its Senior Center Initiative Final Report, detailing the results of the two-year initiative to improve the future for California senior centers. The Senior Center Initiative Final Report reviews the three components of the Initiative: the Literature Review, the Senior Center Stakeholder Forum, and the Senior Center Infrastructure Survey, and makes findings and recommendations about the future of California’s senior center network. The California Commission on Aging and the Congress of California Seniors presented the results of their two-year Senior Center Initiative to the State Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee on June 22, 2010. The California Commission on Aging joined with the Congress of California Seniors in 2009 to survey California’s nearly 750 providers of senior center services. The profile of senior centers covers a range of infrastructure issues, including senior center demographics, current services provided, facility capacity, preparedness for natural disasters, telecommunications, accessibility, maintenance needs and energy utilization.
